Buffalo Bill Museum/The Lone Star Steamer
This is a Memorial and tribute to native son William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, as well as a museum of steamboat and pioneer history. You will see a wooden-hull sternwheeler, a national historic landmark, on display with a model of "black box" used on airplanes, which was invented by an Iowan. Colonel Davenport Historic Home Tour
Guides will recall the army fort construction that brought George Davenport to Rocky Island in the Mississippi (now home to the Rock Island Arsenal) in 1816. Davenport developed a prosperous fur trade with local American Indians and in 1833 constructed the Federal-style mansion that is the centerpiece of the present-day museum site.
